Dr. Justin Settle Obituary

Crab Orchard- Dr. Justin Dewayne Settle passed from this life into the loving arms of our Lord early Thursday, February 15, 2024, at his home.

Justin was born on September 17, 1977 in Herrin, IL to Randy and Lora (Skinner) Settle.  He grew up in Herrin, where he was first introduced to the dental field through his father’s dental laboratory.  After graduating from Herrin High School in 1996, he attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, earning an undergraduate degree in physiology.  He then attended dental school at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, IL graduating in 2005.  He returned to southern Illinois to practice dentistry, where he was afforded the opportunity to care for those in the community he called home.

Justin married the love of his life, Brynne Emery, on February 2, 2008.  Their three children- Ava, Josey and Coy- were Justin’s pride and joy.

While he enjoyed his time in the dental office, he loved spending time with his family on their farm while raising black angus cattle.  Starting with just a few head of cattle to what is now a full cattle ranch.  He spent countless hours in the fields with his loved ones.  He also explored the path less traveled and enjoyed taking his family on backroads vacations exploring the west and yearly ski trips to Colorado.

AS a loyal member of Arnold View Free Will Baptist Church, Justin was passionate about his faith.  He continued to give God the glory, even on the most difficult days.

Justin made an impact on everyone he met in his 46 years on this earth. Some knew him as a dentist, cowboy, or musician – but the people he cherished most called him husband, dad, and son.

His legacy will live on through the memories of those who had the opportunity to know him.  He will be remembered for his positive outlook on life, ability to make every person feel special, and quiet generosity.

To say that his family and friends will miss him greatly is an understatement. It is hard to know what Heaven is like, but it likely includes a field of cattle and Justin patiently waiting for his family and friends to one day join him.

Justin is survived by his wife of sixteen years- Brynne and their three children- Ava, Josey and Coy, his parents- Randy and Lora Settle of Herrin and Father-in-law and mother in law- Ron and Cathy Emery of Harrisburg.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents- Kenny and Shirley Settle and Vance and Mary Skinner as well as special grandparents- Glenn and Melba Thurman.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Herrin First Baptist Church/ 1500 S. 13th St/ Herrin IL.  A visitation will follow the celebration of life until 5:00 PM.  Pastor Adam Brown and Rev. Robbey Smith will officiate.  A private burial will be held at Settle Family Cemetery on the family farm.  Funeral and memorial arrangements were entrusted to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home in Herrin.
