Joseph F. “Preacher” Watson, 69, previously of Murphysboro, gained his angel wings at 5:29 AM, Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Joseph was born on August 14, 1954 in Herrin to Joseph and Joy Watson. He married Shelley Wilson on March 8, 2023 at Bald Knob Cross. She survives of Herrin.
Joe was a retired truck driver who drove over the road for many years and then recently he drove local coal hauling routes for Ellis Trucking. He also worked as a greeter at the Carbondale Wal-Mart for many years.
Joe was a Christian and attended Ava Missionary Baptist Church. His nickname was "Preacher" as he led many people to the Lord through the years he always ended his prayers with ; "Angels all around..". He was a member of the Elks. He liked mowing, landscaping and being outdoors. He loved his family, adored his wife and enjoyed socializing. Joe never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife- Shelley Wilson of Herrin and sister- Susie Reynolds and husband Kevin of Carterville.
He was preceded in death by his parents- Joy S. Boyd and C. E. Boyd and his grandparents- Frank and Edith Hepler..
A private visitation and funeral will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024 at McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Mark Gearhart will officiate.
