Herrin- Sandy “Granny” Plumlee, 81, of Herrin, passed away at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 2, 2024 at her home.
Sandy was born on March 5, 1942 in Herrin to Eldon Legan and Velta (Richardson) Huff. She married Harold "Sonny" Plumlee on February 28, 1958 in DeSoto County, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1973. She later married Lewis Jones on July 15, 1978 in Herrin and he preceded her in death on August 22, 2010.
She was a hardworking woman who worked several jobs prior to finding her calling while working in the stress lab of Herrin Hospital for 20 years prior to her retirement in 2012.
Sandy was a Christian woman who never met a stranger and enjoyed spending time with family and her many friends. Some of her favorite activities were going to estate sales, antiquing and traveling to Florida. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her daughter- Janice Marlo and husband Jim of Marion, sons- Kevan Plumlee and wife Vickie of Herrin, Tracy Plumlee and wife Lori of Riverton and Chad Jones and wife Laura of Herrin; eleven grandchildren including- Jeffrey Marlo and wife Becca, Lindsay Oliveira and husband Adam, Kacie Frankie and husband Dustin, Courtney McKinney and husband Anthony, Joshua Jones, Nathan Jones, Crosby Jones, Claire Jones, Danielle Graham and husband Joseph, Rikki Cleeton and Adam Lair, MacKenzie Cleeton and Jarrett Ball; eleven great grandchildren including- Rogger Marlo, Brady and Kendall Oliveira, Kaelyn and Karson Frankie, Ryleigh and Gavin McKinney, Ella Graham, Saylor Cleeton, Skyler Lair and Sabastian Martin, sisters- Connie Bush and husband Jammie of Mt. Juliet, TN and Donna Laws and husband Tony of Statesville, NC; brother-in-law- John Neely of Nashville, TN and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and sister- Carla Neely.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Lone Oak Baptist Church/ 809 Ryan Drive/ Energy, IL 62933. Her grandson- Jeffrey L. Marlo will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy. Memorial arrangements were entrusted to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home in Herrin.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Williamson County Child Advocacy Center and will be accepted at the church or mailed to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home/ 501 S. 12th/ Herrin, IL 672948.
